Spots on my betta?

So I started out with this awesome opaque betta:

And within the space of a week, he's got these blackish spots:

See the top fin toward the back, and on the tail you can see it too.
Is this normal? I don't mind the spots, really, I bought a betta for fun and because he was pretty, not necessarily because he was 100% white. I just want to make sure he's OK.
He also rarely flares up like he did when I first put him in the tank. Is this because he's just comfortable there, or should I worry?

He may have marble genes and be changing color. It doesn't look like he has any disease that would change his color, he looks healthy.

Some bettas don't flare very much.. it depends on age and personality. Also if he is cold he'll be less inclined to flare.

He's a very pretty boy.. his eyes are an amazing contrast to his body.
