It would make sense if my comment only referred to those with this type of filter. I seriously do not know what that black tube is called, ha.

xxabc- That is very helpful i had no idea, it said nothing about that in the instructions. I will try it out.

Hope it works out for you. Sometimes you have to tie it up with some rubber bands because it's not always compliant. But it really is nice not having to make some sort of buffer.

would you explain how you used the rubber bands to hold it up? i see what you mean, it slides its way back down to normal after a while.

Just tie a rubber band around what level you want it at. It's pretty gritty and rubbery, and thick (compared to what it's going against). So it keeps it from falling down. Just tie it around, no need to hang it on something.

To filter my personal aquarium, my dad cut a piece of bigger filter made of carbon and cotten so it could fit in my small fish tank, then he sewed it up. The cotten holds the carbon in place, as well as absorbing fish poop, and the carbon absorbs ammonia. The box the filter came in came with like 5 other carbon/cotten things, so we also use those for the family fish tank. I never tried a sponge filter before, but it seems like a good idea.
