Use of aquarium salt in the wrong dose and used too long can cause resistant parasite/pathogens...research has shown that we now have salt resistant ich from over use and wrong dosage use
Long term salt also can cause internal damage in some species, most effect to the kidney and you can see the symptom of dropsy and other swelling and death for no apparent reason, also some species of fish and plants can't tolerate any salt.

I have heard that too much salt can mess with the fish's osmoregulatory system.
