Yes definately, the last lot of gravel I had was too big so the plants would refuse to stay planted, turned my tank into a salad bowl lol

Itd be really hard to have a planted tank with just stones.

I personally think stones look nice in a smaller tank if you don't want the hassle of gravel. I prefer them over marbles or bare bottoms.

what do you mean by stones ..like rocks from the woods ? post some pics ?
i have a 20 gallon long

For a 20gL I would go for gravel. Any color you like.

I have:
Bare bottomed 10g
Mixed blues 10g
Natural colors 10g
Natural colors 2g
Green gravel 5g
Another bare bottom 10g
