Question Pellets or flakes?

I was wondering which is better to feed my new betta, the pellets or the flakes? I've fed him the pellets, but he doesn't seem partial to them and seemed to have trouble swallowing them.

Would flakes be better?

I bought flakes afterwards, and it turns out that he prefers them. He's eating much better now.

I prefer pellets because it's easier to ration. With flakes you could easily overfeed them. Some pellets come clumped so you have to break them apart yourself. Just be careful not to give him too many flakes. Also, flakes tend to pollute the water more than pellets do.

I agree that pellets are really the better choice. What type of pellets were you feeding? They come in different sizes.

Sadly, the only thing available when I got my fish was Wal-Mart's great value brand of pellets. Needless to say, my fish isn't overly impressed. He tries to eat them, but usually just spits them out again. Unfortunately, I don't live really close to a pet store to buy him something better. But I do plan on doing that, because the flakes are messy.

i agree with pellets. when you have time and you are close to one doing something else, maybe you should try going to a pet store and then they can help you

Flakes can be equally nutritious. True they can cloud the water, but really, it's not that bad. I wouldn't choose pellets over flakes because of that. For me, pellets are just easier. Grab two, and feed. Flakes, to avoid overfeeding, I'd have to watch more, put it out on my palm and see if it's an okay amount. I've never had problems with clumping pellets, but I've heard of that. My choice? It depends on the brands you are choosing between. Choose the more nutritious. Hikari BioGold is great for me, but apparently it has MSG now. But I don't know of the negative effects in fish.

I'm planning on buying some smaller pellets if I can find them. The flakes are hard for him to catch because of the current caused by my filter. The pellets are a little hard too, but I guess because they're not as light, they don't move quite as fast.
