my black betta ozzy is a tailbiter! i havnt caught him in the act yet but i can tell by all his bite sized rips in his tail and anal finnage =/

ive got him in a 2.5 gal with a growing plant and a fake plant and a mug as a cave

you guys think if i add more plants he'll nibble less?

I would suggest putting him near a female's tank so as I say, "All flirty, no bitey!"

hehe the girls are next door to him but he dosent seem interested he just wants to dance around

Hmmm could you move his tank away from the other fish? Maybe that's what is ticking him off. When I had tail bitters most of the time they were biting because they could see another betta and they became so anxious that they bit their tail. Is the tank by a window? How long do you keep their lights on for?

I have nowhere else to put him you think putting something between the tanks would suffic?...he's not by a window but my room has loads of natural light cuz I hav on big long window and one of those big slideing door Windows,,, the tank lights are on from 12-930/10 (for the plants)

Maybe add some fake plants in the 2.5 to crowd it up more so he can hide in them or explore them instead of biting? You can block off his tank from other fish so they can't see him using paper or those aquarium backings, scrapbook paper for pretties, or just a notebook [whatever you have lying around]. Try that for a day and see if there's an improvement. If not, then something else is stressing him, whether it be water changes, water temp, something IN the water, something in the tank, etc.

I have a tailbiter, and I've tried everything suggested here and more, and he still keeps biting his tail. >.< Not to scare you, truthequalslies, but I think some cases just don't improve.
