Thinking of getting a snail for algae control

My recently-cycled 5-gallon tank is developing algae, so I guess it's time to consider a snail. If I do get one, I'll be going to my local pet store for a snail, but I'll have to know exactly what I want since they recently downsized and anything living is order-only now. What is a species of snail that does well with bettas but isn't too messy and won't multiply rapidly? My tank is kept at 80*F and the pH is 7.6. Anything you could tell me about the care of any recommended snail would be greatly appreciated.

Well nerites and GREAT algae eaters but they do now multiply in fresh water.

Hmm. You have a 5 gal... well, go with a Nerite or two. Nerites need brackish (slightly salty) water to reproduce in and are apparently difficult to breed. Plus, Nerites don't have much of their body exposed beyond the shell.

If I do end up getting a snail, I like the look of the zebra nerites, so I guess that's what I'll get. Thanks for the replies!
