I have been treating Bob for fin rot for 3 days now and it's getting worse, today he actually has pin holes in his fin.
I have removed him from his 5 gallon and put him in his original container so I can do daily 100% water changes. I added a small amount of salt. I'm not worried about a heater as the temp in here stays around 75 and lower is better when trying to heal fin rot?
He still eats but he's looking bad...what else can I do...how do you do the garlic? Just cut up fresh stuff or do you remove the juice somehow?

Is Bob a CT Betta?? If so,CT is quite choosy on requiring good water quality and smooth water running with filter on the tank. Better remove all the decos and plastic plants if you got one. The quality of water is way important to make Betta happily on the tank.

No he is a VT...I was doing 25% water changes every second day and 100% bi-weekly. And was testing the water regularly and it was fine. I JUST got a filter 3 days ago. I ordered some silk plants and isolated Bob for now so at the moment he has no plants with him.

I use a garlic press and crush the garlic and add to their food. Keep up with the daily water changes and if it continues to get worse you may want to use a broad spectrum antibiotic. I don't use OTC meds so I can't recommend any or its uses.

The holes are in a horizontal pattern across his bottom fin...I am guessing from the plants :S
