it is a boy and he is very pretty:) i would not put any fish in that tank but like others said a snail will look nice and a little more decorations would be okay. also i would not put a betta in any smaller than a 5 or ten gallon. also these fish are loners and they (PREFER) to be alone:)

Of course, 2.5 gallons are okay too. My bettas seem to prefer them to 5 gallons- they just seem more active and happier in smaller tanks. Don't ask me why, they just do.

I'd say, if you can, get him some sort of cave, (a clean mug works well, just make sure there are no broken/ sharp spots on it,) or somewhere more to hide. My guy likes to go in his cave to sleep and get away from strong light. Plus bettas love hiding spots. : )
