help with female betta

My girlfriend got me a female betta for our 3 month anniversary, and I've never had to take care of a fish before so I thought I'd read up on it. The problem is, even though some of the information is concise, I'm reading a lot of different opinions sometimes. I've read differences on feeding (from a couple times/week to a couple times/day) and differences on cleaning the tank.

So I guess I'm just trying to get a good grasp on things.

Welcome to the forum! What size tank is it? Does it have some kind of a filter or heater?

it is in a 1 gallon tank. It doesn't have a heater or a filter because I read that they don't like the moving water due to the long fins. The tank is used from my girlfriend, although I might just go out and buy a brand new one (it comes with lighted hood with bulb, air pump and under-gravel filter). Not sure where to get the heater though.

That type of tank would be perfect. As for heaters you can get them at any petstore or walmart. Just make sure you get one for the amount of gallons your tank is.

At walmart they have $16 heaters for two gallon tanks but it would work.
