5 gallon eclipse tank question

Hey guys. I have a 5 gallon split tank with a filter heater and 2 live plants. I have 2 bettas in it. How often do I change the water and should it be a full change or a partial? Thanks.

IMO-5g tank with a filter needs water changes of 50% twice a week to maintain quality water for fish health and prevention of issues.

One of the 50% weekly water changes need to include substrate vacuuming in all area that can be reached without moving anything in the tank or disruption of plant roots.
The other weekly 50% water changes should be water only.

Filter media needs a good swish/rinse in old tank water with a water change 1-2 times a month or when the water flow has slowed, you want the filter media to look dirty as this is the good bacteria that is needed to keep the cycle.
If you change out the filter media be sure and cut the old filter media away and place it with the new filter media for a week or so to prevent a mini-cycle.

This is based on two fish in a 5g divided with two live plants and fish not being overfed and uneaten food removed after feeding.

Got any pics?

I have both the Eclipse 5g corner and 5g Hex. I was originally told by someone (who is no longer here) on the forum to do 20-25% weekly. I do a 50-60% once every 2 to 3 weeks and 20-25% the other weeks.

As far as vacuuming goes, I have a vac that is for 10 gallon tanks that is used on my split 10. Can I use that on the 5 gallon or do I need to buy a new smaller one??

It depends on its size, some are too big and remove too much water too fast before you have time to clean, I would try it and see how it works.
Its always nice to be able to use all the same stuff on all the tanks......
