Ok Fish List

So I have a 10 Gal tank and I am looking to add a fish or two but I cant seem to find a list of ok fish to live with Betta's.

Can someone please direct me or tell me what are aok.

Actually mollies need at least a 20 gallon tank and platies have been known to nip fins. What I recommend for a 10 gallon tank would be a nice school of cory's.

ummm platies dont nip fins that is false platies are fine i have some with my betta and they dont nip his fins if anything he just flares at them

I think the point trying to be made is that each fish is different. While Platies work for some, not for others. Tetra's work for some (if kept in schools of 6 or more), they are fin nippers for others.

Shrimp work well for most people, sometimes the betta's eat them.

Corydoras generally work well with betta's, but need to be kept in shoals of 4 to 6.

African dwarf frogs also work well, as do snails.

All of these are general. It really depends on your fish and the other fish you are getting. Just be prepared to separate if needed.

Mollies and platys are not good tankmates for a betta because they have different water requirements. They like water that has a higher salinity and hardness than bettas--while bettas can adapt to these water conditions, it can have a very negative effect on them, particularly their fins, over time. Mollies and platies can also be very nippy and aggressive toward bettas, and because of the coloring of platies, it can go the other way too because the betta might confuse it for another betta and attack it.

Pygmy cories are a good choice, but as was mentioned, they need to be in groups or they become stressed and don't live as long. African dwarf frogs can also do well, but they can take more care than you realize, so research them carefully to make sure you are up for it.

Some bettas simply don't tolerate other fish, keep in mind that domestic betta splendens were bred selectively for aggression before they were bred selectively for looks.

Platys and Mollies don't work. As said above, they both require a higher salinity and hardness. Mollies also like to have a lot of vegetation in their diet while bettas are carnivores (meat-eaters)
The mollies also require larger tanks than a ten. Perhaps they'd "work" in a larger tank when the betta isn't fighting to keep his territory, but for the most part, they don't. You don't want to sacrifice the happiness of one fish for another if at all possible, so a habitat suitable for a molly would make a betta unhappy, and vice-versa.

I've had luck with otos, snails, and shrimp in a ten gallon. Granted, Roscoe did eat one of the shrimp, but I bougth extra keeping that in mind.
