Eek. We were biking Nike tonight and this off-lead whippet (in the on-lead area of the park) comes up and starts chasing after my dad and Nike while barking. Nike has some fear issues with other dogs and reacts on the defensive. Next thing I know Nike is loose and chasing this whippet around.
They were going around for at least five minutes, until finally Nike got tired and slowed down enough to be caught. Then she goes up to the whippet once she'd been leashed wagging her tail and looking like they'd had the best game ever.
I felt so sick watching them. I thought Nike was either going to get her leash caught in the trees or the other dog was going to break a leg or something.
I know. I thought my dad let Nike go because he was going to fall off. But no, he told me and mum he let Nike go just in case the whippet decided to attack her!! I was thinking why on earth would you let your daughter's dog loose, when you know she has no recall, and could have very easily ran through the carpark and been hit by a car, or accidentally injured the other dog? Plus it's a whippet. It would be like Nike in a fight against a cat.
He has now been told he should not let that leash go unless his life is in danger.
I'm so looking forward to the next two months until the big show.
