Ten Gallon Community Tank?

My male betta has lived alone for the past three months. I just moved him into a ten gallon tank. I would like to get some other fish, but I'm not sure what kinds have the potential to get along well with him? And how many of a different fish I could put in a ten gallon? I don't want to overflow my tank with fish but I would like a better variety.
I would only start out with about two or three other fish in the tank to make sure he isn't too aggressive.
If anyone has a ten gallon community tank with a betta, what species and number of each fish do you have in it?

I had 6 corydoras and 6 neon tetras in my 12 gallon but I overstocked no doubt.lol.

You could put a apple snail in with your betta or 6 tetras of some sort make sure their the small tetra :)
