Personally I don't like them-one, they are too small and often the female will stress in them and abort, two, poor water flow and so the water can go bad faster.
I keep lots of plants both rooted and floating for the fry to hide and feed in.
I like lots of naja grass or sometimes called guppy grass-this plant is an easy low-mod light plant that can be floated or planted and it will get pretty dense
I like to use water lettuce as a floater for its long roots that hang down in the water column, great for fry to hide/feed in.
When raising guppies I found that keeping a species only tank with lot of plants works best.
