Just general questions

Hi all. I'm new here

I just bought a new Betta last Sat., and am now housing him in a 1.5 gallon, filtered, heated tank (I know a lot of people think that's too small, but he's active and happy, it seems). The water is staying at a steady 78 degrees. I check constantly, lol. I had him in a .8 gallon tank for a couple days, then moved him to this new one on Mon.

Anyway, I did a 50% water change today, and vacuumed the gravel. Is that sufficient for one small Betta in a tank that size, every few days, or once a week? He is a small guy, maybe an inch, if that. I feed him 2 or 3 pellets every day, and maybe 2 freeze-dried bloodworms every few days.

He also has 3 Java ferns in there with him, and a gravel bottom.

Thanks!

Wendy~

In you 1.5 galon, filtered I would do a 50% water change 2-3 days if using the siphon but definitely don't more than that!

You will need to clean it 100% once a week, in addition to one or two 50% water changes. A tank that size can't be cycled, so the ammonia will build up quickly and accumulate in the gravel, decorations etc. So plan on one 100% change once a week and maybe one or two 50% changes.
