Mystery Snails often float and they can stay still for days without moving. I find that with stress they tend to float and recluse more, when mine were in a tank on their own they were always fine but now that I have separated them and they are with other fish I never see them snailing around
The snails float when they have too much air in their lungs, when the apple snail floats it doesn't mean that there is something wrong or that it is dead.
To check if the snail is alive take it out of the water, if the trapdoor is tightly closed then you can be sure it is still alive, when the snail is dead the muscles relax and the snails door stays partly open, this can sometimes happen when their alive too, also smell the snail you will instantly know if it is dead by the rotten smell. Also I find that if the snail has plenty of food they will show no activity, so if your concerned then you could reduce the amount you feed it, another cause could be low temps so make sure they stay between 65-82f
