hey this is my custom built tank for vulcan, the plantings include amazon swords, java moss, hair grass and anubias. its not quite finished i still have some tweaking to do and i may change the plantings completely. the tank itself is very wide and i purposely made it slightly shallower than the average tank. i'v still got a piece of wood that is going in here and some more moss types. theres two 15w bioglo bulbs in and the lid was made by my wonderfull man. so what do you think? the mountain has plenty of caves and hidy holes and the tank is filtered, substrate is black sand covering palmfiber peat. i love this tank and i cant wait until i have it exactly right and its grown in abit. hope you like it, Vulcan is deleriously happy lol.
ps sorry about the wiring its from the lights and i have to figure out what im going to do to keep it neatly out of the way. im also looking into a more discreet filter, theres batting on this ones spray bar to diffuse the current
not really its pretty much just like a normal tank cleaning wise. the palmfibre peat is under the very fine gravel, in effect capped to stop it floating. it provides a bit of fertilizer to my root plants though i still have to fertilize via the water column for my mosses. the palmfibre is under about 4 cm of black fluorite sand so no danger of it coming out. i have very high hopes for this tank but am still looking for a few plants to provide a backdrop that i like. cleaning i use a normal gravel vac and bucket.
ps thanx for the compliments hehe. all the big rocks were siliconed down to another plate of glass ovrer the coarse of 2 weeks. this will stop them falling over and possibly cracking my tank
IMO you need to control those cords, looks very sloppy. Also, is that heater cord running through the middle of your aquarium? 0_o Looks pretty unique, though I don't think that would be my style
naa its the lighting cords, im having a wee bit of a problem with the lid warping and i will probably have to cut out a small piece at the back of the lid through which i could thread all the lighting cords. i would still like to replace the filter with a smaller one that can be easily hidden but at the moment i havnt the fogiest what id replace it with. i got the idea for this from looking through the aquascaping competion and though i'd give it a bash, iv never used mosses as they difficult to get here but have now got another two different ones, willow and flame coming which im looking forward to. this tank is definately far from complete, theres plenty still to fix and i may change a few things when my plant orders arrive. i might take the hairgrass out completely and replace it with one of the mosses to from a denser carpet but im not sure yet. i,ve also got to get a proper fertiliser regime worked out as there is so little livestock in here they wont supply enough waste. bearing in mind that this is still a young setup i dont think its doing too bad, the java moss is really taking off though and i may need to trim it and keep a close eye on it.
