tank help

i am getting a new beta and have two tank options,

1.a 2.5 gallon tank
2. or a ten gallon tank with no top, light or filter

i know the 2.5 gallon is cheaper but i dont know what to do
help

Well, I am not an expert, but after doing some reading and considering my options I went with a 2.5 gallon tank with a filter and light and will be doing frequent water changes. I do not plan to keep any other fish with my betta obviously (although I am currently trying to find out if a snail or some such would be a good "companion").

So... that's my two cents.

its not so much a tank as a bowl so i dont know if it will work.

If it were me, I would go with the 10 gal. - bigger is always better - and add the top, light, filter & heater (with winter coming would probably get the heater first) as my finances allowed.

In the meantime, without a top you should leave the water level down quite a bit.

And yes - suitable tank mates for bettas are cory catfish, ghost shrimp and snails. The betta may eat them, but the others shouldn't retaliate. You need a lid though, if your going to get the 10 gallon, bettas can jump. My favourite tank mates are ghost shrimp and mystery snails.

Yes, bettas can jump - BUT if she/he were to get the 10 gal. & only fill it up half way till a lid is acquired, I sincerely doubt the fish could jump out.
