I don't understand. My water parameters are perfect, always have been. I've got a well planted tank, all growing nicely. Just tested the water, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates (just did a water change yesterday)
He's been severely bloated for the past month and a half or so. He ate half of a huge algae wafer and it hasn't passed. I've tried everything. Epsom salt baths (too many to count), daphnia, and even pea. What else could I have done? It wasn't dropsy, I know that. I was stupid and fed him about half of a freeze-dried bloodworm last night, could that have pushed him over the edge? Poor buddy. His tail was growing in so nicely.
I don't like having an empty tank. I took out the divider after Roscoe died (he was old, I could tell he was gonna go soon) and Toothless enjoyed the whole 10 gallons to himself. He explored, chased a few shrimp.
What could have gone wrong? Can fish die from bloat? Or maybe I starved him. He was only getting maybe a pellet a day, since his body was already like a balloon.
I feel like such a horrible fish owner. Why would two of my fish die within a day of eachother? Coincidence?
RIP my little buddy <3
Very first day in his new home:
