Some Questions

I read the sticky but I have a hard time processing a lot of new info at once. Well, it's more about how I receive it. Anyway, I decided it's high time to get another Betta. I haven't had one in years. What supplies will I need to start? My understanding is:

• A tank of at least 2 gallons
• Variety of food
• Safe hiding place
• Gravel
• Filter
• Something to Test the Water
• Drops to Balance the Water

As for a tank - I was looking at a lava lamp looking tank, but it had so little room and doesn't seem like a good tank after reading this. Is there a good tank with LED lights?

I have a 2 year old. The tank will be kept in my room, but I'm still worried. I've seen tanks that mount to the wall, but I'm not sure that's a good idea for the wall or fish? Any ideas for a more child-secure tank?

You'll also need a heater/thermometer, since the water needs to stay at 75-85 degrees. A couple fake plants would be nice; if you decide on those get silk rather than plastic. Plastic rips fins and causes damage.

This is the tank I'm using right now. I have two four-year-old cats that get into everything, but so far all they can do is watch the betta. I realize a toddler is probably a little bit more of a threat than a cat, but if the tank is up where they can't reach it you should be just fine. The tank comes with a filter and light already, and replacement filters are relatively cheap.

I have found that cats and toddlers are about equally sneaky and destructive. Toddlers just have disposable thumbs...

Edit: Oh, and an under gravel Filtration system does not replace th need ofr an air pump, right?
