Colour changing?

Hi, I just got a betta 2 weeks ago and when I got him he was grey and blue. (His face was grey the rest of him was blue). I have him in a 5 gallon tank with a filter and heater. I have 3 neon tetra's with him in there and they have been getting along. I taught my dad how to feed them since I was going to be gone for the weekend and I came back and he is now black faced and his fins aren't clear anymore they are a blue colour and where he makes himself big when he is mad is white and red now. I don't know why this happened he is starting to look like my brothers betta. Thanks for anyone who can help me.

This is marbling. Explains a genetic colour change in some bettas due to a gene. :) Is it like this?

Those neon tetras are schooling fish , prefer to be in schools of 10,

Any less and they tend to be insecure, and will get nippy, and can do some serious damage to your betta's fins

well actually you can have a school of 4 if you have a small tank 3 is ok too but 4 is best. They aren't always nippy or at least i have never had that problem with small schools but i will admit more is better.

Yes I know it's better to have more, I'm going to be buying 3 more. I just read that before I left so I was planning on getting more.

It could be your betta died and someone tried to replace him without you noticing Even in marbles, I dont believe color changing happens overnight... Does it?

I turned off the light in the tank and he started going back to his normal colours, I think he was seeing his reflection because he kept making himself bigger would that cause him to change colouring? He's also trying to attack the neo tetra's now. He swims at them fast and tries to bite them but they swim out of the way. He also won't remain still, he just swims around like crazy.
