As long as you make sure the water is close to the same temp and use dechloriator (if on city water supply) it should not be stressful and often they look forward to it...or at least mine do......

OK, Thank you very much! I do use water conditioner and i put him in a sandwich baggie and float it in the water for about 10 minutes so the temperature is the same.

I like to use a digital thermometer and match the temp from new and old water within 3-5 degrees and toss the fish straight in......but my Bettas are all pretty tough too and used to it and I have really good well water to boot.

I got mine in the kitchen dept at wal mart for less than $5.00-works great for quick water temp checks for water changes and tank temps-I have had this one for about 5-6 years now and haven't had to change the battery yet and I have even dropped in the water a couple of times and it still keeps working....lol......it is only used in my fish room too.......
