Hi, I have a question for people that have used marineland heater. I purchased one and placed it in a 1.5 gallon tank.(Plastic). Everything was fine, it heated the tank really well, kept it at a constant temperature. The only thing is, i noticed my betta was in a really weird state, floating like he was dead, had to tap on the glass a couple times to make sure he was alive, his eyes were really odd, like very enlarged. I moved him into an container, and I just found him dead :(:( The tank is very cloudy looking, slimy?? Its fresh water, only has been sitting in there for a day. What the hell is going on???????????
Well, usually you can't really heat anything less than a two gallon(because if you don't fully immerse the heater they can break, and there can be temp changes anyway with anything electrical and in that small of a tank the betta doesn't have much room to escape a sudden temp change), and some plastics don't work well with heaters it seems :( I'm sorry! It might be the plastic reacting to the heater!
Yeah I figured it was too small. BUT the heater was fully emerged in the water and I kept an eye on the temperature and it seemed to be really consistent. I guess the plastic had a reaction to the heater?? Although I would feel the sides of the tank every hour and couldn't feel a difference. But I am so sad now I was trying to make Him a happier home and I killed him :( he was an odd Betta from the start though. Swam funny, not very active. Uggghhh! So frustrated!
