Terra Cotta Pot Smell?

Is it normal for an unused, unpainted terra cotta pot to have an earthy smell to it, even after soaking? Iíve been soaking it in tap water for just over 24 hours, but the smell is still very evident.

I was planning on soaking it in tap water until the smell went away and then soaking for another 24 hours or so in treated water, but maybe the smell is completely normal and wonít go away? (I have a very sensitive nose, so itís entirely possible that the smell isnít quite as strong as I think it is. :P)

Yeah, it's clay which comes from earth so it should smell like caly/earth. Just not too much like rich soil, though it's hard to distinguish that lol.
