New tank, need some help

I finally upgraded from my 1 gallon tank to a nice filtered and heated 5 gallon tank. I haven't decided if I'm going to cycle it yet or not, but it'll at least cut down on the frequency of the water changes I have to do.

Roy, my betta, seems to really love the new tank, but when he went to investigate the filtration system he kinda got stuck to the intake. I was watching him so I was able to switch off the filter a few seconds later, but I'm afraid to turn it back on until I've got some sort of baffle in there.

How would I go about baffling the intake to the filter?

I have an intake like that, I haven't had a problem with it yet.. you could probably get a piece of aquarium sponge and stick it inside?

yep. =] The sponge inside works great. =]
they also sell fluval intake sponges that are black and cover the intake entirely these are snazy and work well too! =] Or you could just take an aquaclear sponge , cut an X into it and so the same thing with a different look. =]
