The bamboo will be fine as long as its leaves have access to the surface. If not, just boost it up with some rocks :)

Quite a few red VTs have a black trim to their fins. (Other colors/tail types, too, but you see it a lot in red VTs.) It's not always rot, usually it's just coloring. But for the first few days, you'll want to keep an eye on it--if the fins start receding or, well, rotting away, it's fin rot. But it just looks like natural coloring to me.

A spade tail is just a variation on a VT anyway, so even if you had gotten a spade, it wouldn't be much different. I have three lovely VTs right now, there's nothing wrong with them at all! Mine are some of the liveliest fish I own.

He looks happy and healthy from what I've seen. Just keep up on his water changes and I think you'll be very happy with him! Tail type isn't important, in the end, it's all about personality~

Does the bowl have a top? He's so pretty! I don't want him to jump out.

His fins are slightly ripped. I bet when they get better he's gonna be WONDERFUL! The end of his tail is a little square, but if it grows it might be a Spade Tail. He does look a lot like a spade tail though! :)
