Yes, the whole thing has been a lot more of a pain than I expected. It's been enough to make me start thinking that it wouldn't be so bad to do water changes more often... Hopefully after a while it will be worth it. However, soon I'm going to have to figure out a way to take the filter media home for breaks from school without losing the cycle, if that is possible.

Do a fish-in cycle. The tank will cycle itself eventually.

wow...that would be hard....as alex09 said, i think a fish-in cycle would probably work.....and if its not cycled before break then you might just have to give up on it until you come back, then do a fish-in cycle
