Question Cloudy eye and how to treat?

Hey all.

New charity case. lol. And my new bedside buddy.
He's happy, flaring and all that fun stuff but he seems to have something wrong with his eye.
It's cloudy and almost looks like something is growing on it. Not popeye, but possibly a fungus or bacteria? I'll post up pictures later. I'm guessing it's due to the cold, freaking disgusting water they had him in. He's been at the store for months and every time I see him he gets progressively worse.

ANYWAY... I'll take pictures after work tonight.

Who knows, if I can get him back to health I might adopt him out... ;)

Here's a photo of the poor guy.
He's a bit fin-rotty, but it looks like it's reversing itself already. Also a bit bloated. Holding off on feeding him right away.
His tank has been treated with aquarium salt... He's in a temp 1 gal that's being warmed with a space heater nearby for the time being. I know, i know. Not the best. buuut I plan on going out and getting him a 2.5 pretty soon here once I get the boys in the 10 gal.

Anyway see the ring around the eye? That's what I'm worried about. The eye itself is actually cloudier than this lets on. He seems active though.

Anyway

I'm guessing this is the beginning of popeye--due to poor water quality. Since the eye isn't bulging right now, I would hold off on the epsom salt and let him de-stress in some very very clean and warm water over the next couple of days. Some pure methylene blue should be helpful if you have it on hand. If the eye starts to bulge, you should use a leave-in treatment of epsom salt. Hopefully the improved conditions will help him recover from whatever is causing the eye problem.

Thanks, Adastra. I appreciate the advice. :)

Will be updating over the next week or so on his condition.
