Hey all... My beloved Betta Fish, Al, has fin rot. He's had it for a couple of weeks now and things aren't looking good. I've tried changing his water quite frequently, cleaning his ornaments, and even some medication. I'm not sure things are looking any better.
From what I understand there are 2 types of fin rot... fungal and bacterial. I would think that it's bacterial as his fins seem to be rotting pretty raggedly. Also, I have not noticed any fungal growths or whiteness on him (it's mostly black at the affected areas).
I started feeding him some anti-bacterial food pellets a few days ago (that claim to help aid in the curing of fin rot). What else should I do? Should I just continue to feed him these and clean the water? Or should I perhaps go to a more drastic medication measure? I'm just worried because I fear he may reach his end in a few weeks at this rate...
Any help would be appreciated. He's been my only pet for the last 10 years and I've grown very attached to him. I do not want to see him go already
- 10 gallon tank.
- Filtered tank.
- Heated tank (77-80 degrees normally).
- When changing water: conditioner & aquarium salt is added.
- Has not yet been sick since switching to filtered/heated tank 6 months ago.
- Still seems to be in decent spirits- interacts with me and eats his food quickly.
Thanks in advance.
