Question about light in tank.

The tank that I keep my Betta in has a light attached on the top. At the moment I turn this light off every night but do I have to? Is it something that can just stay on or would that confuse the Betta? I wasn't sure whether I should turn it off at night to replicate a natural light pattern or if it could just be left on all the time.

I believe like a lot of other creatures, bettas enjoy and thrive on a cycle that stimulates daytime and nighttime. So, it would be best to turn the light on/off everyday. If it is convenient for you, you can also plug your light into a timer, so that it can turn on/off your light for you. That way it saves you the hassle of doing so yourself :)

Agreed. Bettas should have about 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark though mine is a little off. I turn mine on when I come home at 3:30 and turn it off at 11:30 when I go to bed and then it's off the rest of the time.

No, I think it needs to be off at night. It would seem uncomfortable to have a light on you all the time, why would it be different for a fish? Just what I think. Plus, my betta only ever sleeps in his plants when I turn the light off.

Okay thanks guys. Point taken. I will keep up what I am doing right now which is turning the tank light off every night before I go to bed.
