Yeah, I hear what you're saying. Every time I go to Wallyworld I go down the aquarium supply aisle to check on the bettas and make sure no fool has put two of them together (like I found them one time) and unstack them so a bit of air can at least get in those tiny slits they call ventilation. Fool that I am, about every other time I leave with another betta too. And you're right, the CTs in particular are just sooooo tiny! But mine are
doing well, have lost one through my own ignorance and none since.

And yes, as much personality as these little guys display, I do believe they must feel sadness and maybe even despair. Thank you for saving another one.

I completely agree.

When I was younger I travelled somewhat frequently, whenever I went away my mom would take care of my Betta for me. The first few times when I got home she would be freaking out saying my fish was sick and dying and that he won't eat. I would run to my room to see what was wrong but as soon as my Betta saw me he would perk right up and wiggle all over. I'd drop a few pellets in his tank and he'd gobble them right up.

The only thing we could figure out was he missed me and was depressed.

I personally chose to believe all living things have a full range of emotions.
