Hm male. What female to get?

So my spawn are coming up to 4 months and soon will be on there way to be given new homes and be sold.

So I got a new hm betta from a breeder and Iwas wondering what is the best female for him? I would like like to go for colour not fins for this spawn and maybe later on will I focus on fins.

Sorry for the bad pics. But he is solid yellow with a hint of blue at the start of his fins.

Well you know me. I'm always going to harp about form and function over color. Always keep the total package in mind.

That said it depends on the background of the fish. I have yellow fish in my current spawn and they are from a multicolor background so even if I spawned them with more yellows there's a good chance I'd still end up with a lot of multicolors.

If you want yellow I suggest finding a fish that closely resembles what you want.

Id go with trying to find another yellow, so even if you get multicolor spawn, they will carry the trait, and you can get the yelo

Definately focus on fins first...color comes second.

A true yellow is difficult to maintain. I got a variety of colors except yellow when I spawned a yellow pineapple male to a copper female (F1 yellow x copper). I conclude that yellow is quite recessive towards other colors. So I agree with the above advices; maintain form as a priority, color second. Then when you actually get a true yellow, it will have that perfect form you desire. ...... The yellow on my male now looks gold and is actually a dragon. Maybe that's why I got various colors.
