What to add?

Well, I've been into fish keeping since August of this year, and learned a lot before I even got my betta fish. I mention this so people know I'm not a complete noob :P
Anyways, I've got a betta fish (who doesnt seem to be a veiltail, just a standard betta with no special finnage...but hes pretty :]) in my 14 gallon tank with 3 neon tetras. Used to have 6 neon tetras, but I guess I got a bad batch of neons, since 3 died But now, my tank is looking pretty empty, and I'm wondering what else I could put into it.
I'm a little tired of neon tetras, so no mentioning more neons :P Other tetras are fine. Cories also arent an option, because I've got black gravel, and I dont wanna harm them with it. Any suggestions are welcome :D

If the gravel isn't sharp than getting corycats would be just fine, if I were you I'd get a few albino, they'd look so nice against the black gravel. You could also get Platys, or invertabrites (I've heard that ghost shrimp can get a bit aggressive if they grow large enough) Or african dwarf frogs.

Yes. I would go with the Cories.. That is if your rocks arent pointed stones. But I wouldnt go with livebearers...

I don't know about male betta fish, but I currently have 4 females living happily with 3 african dwarf frogs (these guys are entertaining and loveable!), 3 ghost shrimp (they all seem to tolerate and love each other), and a snail.

Its one big happy and entertaining family =)

All of those tanks mates go with Bettas as well. Its all up to how your Betta will react to them..and what you prefer.

Ah, I see. Could I have cherry barbs or any kind of rasboras in my tank as well? I'd like more than just bottom dwellers added, you know? Ideas appreciated :D

I've also been wondering what to add to my 5g tank all I have is a male betta but I'm worried if I put anymore fish he will get more chances of getting sick? Cause I recently just purchased him and it looks like he has mouth fungus.

No other fish but a betta can go in a 5gallon.

Bettafish15: You could try whiecloud minnows, cories, snails, shrimp, ADF's, and zebra danios/Glofish.

I heard that zebra danios can stress out betta fish because of their speed, is that correct? Thats the only reason I havent gotten any.

I haven't heard anything about that. I just heard that if not kept in a large enough school, they can get nippy.
