simple this was my first fish i come on here and you guys say i needed one so i put one in trying to help him out i fed him 3-4 pellots every day or other day

Well, you have to get a specific kind of heater and a thermometer as well.... I don't think anyone on this forum would suggest picking up a random heater and just dropping it in :/

But I am very sorry for your loss, hopefully this will be a learning experience to you and many others...

I've heard of up to 10 years but bettas usually die in their first 4 years of life.

What's the name of the heater? I'd toss it but it would be helpful to the other members if you post the name so that we can aviod it and put it on our products black list.

A great heater is the Marineland Stealth or the Hydor Theo. If you get either of those get the 25 watt ones. They're for up to 5 gallons. =]

The marineland Stealth 25 watt is only available in stores but it is there. =]
Hydor theo 25 watt heaters are also sold in stores. =]
