Tail torn

I just rescued this little guy from Petsmart and was wondering what I could do to fix his fins. They are mangled and torn, not sure if it is a disease or just fins that were chewed on?

What size is your tank? right now he is in a small 1 gal hospital tank

Is your tank heated? no its 2 small I think (could I put a small heater?) I will tranfer him to a heated flltered 10gal as soon as he is healed....or should I now?

What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 100% just because I don't know if he is sick or not

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? I bought him with fins mangled and fringed

Looking at his fins and seeing how they have a dark outline to them, I would say that he definitely has finrot. Keep his water super clean, add epsom salt (1tsp/gallon) the salt with help prevent infection. Feed him a high protein diet, this will help to promote new tail growth. And it would be great if you can get your hands on some Indian Almond leaves (Oak leaves are a good alternative) or some betta spa which contains almond leaf extract, this will help to boost his immune system and also guard againt further infection!

He is so gorgeous! I couldn't pass him up! ;) poor little guy... I put the Epsom salt in and got some betta spa...I can't find any IAL in my area but I do have oak leaves...do I just let them float on top? Thank you again so much! I will let you know how is recovery goes! :)

First rinse off the oak leaves and makes sure they're pesticide free, then you can either put a small piece of the leaf in the water and let the tannins release on their own or you can steep the leaves in hot water like tea, and you'll get some dark water that you can add a little of to the water. He's beautiful!! I think keeping his water clean and warm will be fine for now. If his finrot gets any worse then you may have to medicate him but I think 100% water changes every day will do him a world of good. Good luck with him.

Thank you! I will continue to do the water changes daily and keep him warm and well fed :).... He is so full of life now it makes me smile!
