well my suggestion is to do what i do:
1) i cut up the 1 pellet into about 3-4 smaller pieces. when they hit the water they kinda spread out and he has to swim around to get them all.

2) well our ice maker makes our ice bullet-shaped. i take one piece and put some food in it. top of the ice cube and re-freeze the cube. 5 minutes later i feed. its kinda timed release.

3) If you don't have ice like mine, you can just buy a small ice cube tray from the dollar store fill it halfway put the food in(because most betta food float)
Freeze it. and then top off the tray, freeze and then feed.

JUST DON"T MIX THEM UP WITH YOUR OWN ICE CUBE TRAYS.LOL

oh and don't worry in my 5 gal. the ic changes the temp by 0.1 degrees
