So, I look over and see my little Shamus kind of tumbling around the gravel all willy nilly and sideways underneath the filter current, my heart skips a beat and I jump up to go rescue him from whatever it is that is happening. As I approach he swims over to the front of the aquarium, like, "What's all the commotion about and are you going to feed me?"
I remember reading on here somewhere how betta's hate filter current. I have mine somewhat baffled, but there is a decent current just below the outflow. I catch Shamus "playing" in it all the time. He'll start at one end of the aquarium and swim as fast as he can through the current (at which point he dips down a few inches) and then out to the other side. He then turns around and does it the other direction.
Sometimes I see him swim up into the current, kind of like one of those endless pools...he just swims and swims and goes no where. There have also been times where I've seen him let the current push him into a plant, all sideways and awkward looking. When I see him like this I always go to rescue him thinking he's trapped, but, like above, when I approach he swims away effortlessly.
I have come to the conclusion that he is either stupid or he is entertaining himself. I prefer to believe the latter.
