Quick filter question...

I'm currently setting up my 10 gallon for my Betta boys, and was wondering about filters. I wasn't planning on using one, as I really don't have the time or money (test kits) to cycle. Yes, I know that sounds bad, but I'm putting my money into plants, a heater, and such. If I get a small sponge filter, will I need to cycle? I don't want to put undue stress on the fish, and if a small filter requires a cycle, I will just do frequent water changes. Either way, my fish will have clean water, so don't worry. I just need this question answered. Thanks!

I don't know much about sponge filters, but.... How much does this sponge filter cost? I use the tetra PF10 and it is only 16$.

It's around 5 or 6 bucks. I might just do frequent water changes. I don't know much about cycling, can't afford testing kits (they're $20?! sheesh. Yes, I'm broke), and don't want dead fish. I DO know of a power filter that I like that's around $11.

I would get the filter. They help A LOT. Mine cleared up my water really fast, and some fish like the small current. 5 or 6 dollars is good. I am not going to buy a 20 dollar test kit either, but the filter will eventually get cycled. They sell cheap bottles of start up bacteria to help.
