Another fish

Okay, so I'm planing on heading over to Petsmart later to see if theres any small gravel pump things, and maybe get a fish in need of, well, rescuing. I have two 1.5 gals in the closet, and was going to see if theres any bettas that don't seem too sick. My last one from Petsmart lasted three months, but that couldve been from anything.
My question is, is there any way to see if the fish are healthy in the cups before taking them home?

look for one that is active, fins in good shape, and doesn't show any signs of disease, especially ick, velvet, fungus, and other parasites. if you see one betta with any of those diseases, buy one from a different store because they are contagious and they probably all have it even if they look healthy. good luck and be sure to post pictures of your new betta!

Thanks! There was a betta sale and this woman almost got two fish in a tiny betta keeper for a grab bag D:
I was gonna get this black one, but a white one got my attention. He was swimming at me, he looked cold though. I just put him in Syre's old 1.5gal, and hes actually a pink tint! I'll try to get pics when he calms down a bit more.

you do understand that buying a fish from a pet store only opens up anther spot for another fish to take the first fish's place? So really its not rescueing any thing just helping out the pet trade to make money.

and you realize as a college student I don't have money for fish from breeders.

Agreed. We are not all rich. Some of us don't even have jobs yet! I don't care if I support a walmart or a petsmart if it means I could save a betta from rotting in a cup.

I agree on both sides I understand where Astro is coming from because what was said is true by buying one another one will take its place. Thats why I try to bargain with them and get it discounted or free ;) Pointing out that the fish will die anyway I have gotten great fish for cheap or free with a little TLC however this works only if you have the time and skill to save a sick fish. And being a college student its all about bargains XD
