Okay, I know that under gravel filters don't do anything at all to clean a tank.
But they do provide filter media to cycle a tank.
I'll be getting a new fish soon and I'll put him in my 2.5 gallon. Can I cycle a 2.5 gallon with an undergravel filter and sand substrate and live plants (LOTS of them)?
And I will probably get most of the cycling done by the time he gets here if I do the fish in cycle with Neon (since his new tank is still cycling) How long should it take? In a 2.5 gallon with 1 male Betta I'm guessing 1 month. I'll do 50% daily waterchanges until it cycles. Then once weekly 50%, sucking up all the fish poo with a turkey baster.
So could it work out? And if I clean the sand really well can I take it off the beach (Hawaii only has sand that came from the beach and I can't afford much)?
