I have Eheim Jager heaters in all of my tanks and I have found them to be excellent at maintaining the correct temperature. I bought a cheap brand from the local pet store as a temporary fix, and even with 100 watts in a 6 gallon tank it was always about 5 degrees below what it was set on.

Even when my house dropped down to less than 10 degrees overnight, my tanks were all kept in the high 70s to low 80s range.

They are expensive, but none of mine have needed replacing so far, and since they have a three year warranty, it was well worth the extra cost for me.

I'd also recommend the Marineland. I had a cheap heater (Deep Blue - Heatstik) for my 5G and it consistently overheated. I traded it in for a Marineland 50W and that's been pretty good about keeping the temperature within a couple of degress or three of where it's set.

I have the tetra submersible 50watt in my 2.5 gallon. It's preset for 78 degrees and works great as long as you follow the directions. It's only about $13 so if it needs replacing after a while it's not a big deal.

50 watt is overkill for a 2.5 gallon tank.

10 watt for up to 3 gal

25 watt for up to 8 gal

50 watt for up to 15 gal

Depending on ambient room temperature of course.

I know it's overkill - but does that mean it's necessarily bad? It says its for 2-10 gal. It only kicks at night to keep the temp up.

Thumbs up

Marineland Stealth Pro's are amazing. High price ($35 at petco), but worth it. Keeps the temperature within two degrees always.
