2 1/2 gal tank air pump filter, heater, java moss, small glass shrimp and small oto. I feed them betta pellets and blood worms.
Just tried frozen brine shrimp and poof she is swollen. Looks like will smith in "hitch" .
I am thinking allergy the other 5 other femfish are fine so is my malfish.
My question has anyone ever noticed allergies in betta splendens.
Thanks, It so looks like an allergic reaction to something. So, now I am Waiting because I really don't know the effects on fish of an antihistamine. even though, I would like to try to reduce the swelling and any possible flare.
Most common causes of bloated are due to a combination of things-overfeeding, wrong foods, poor water quality, wrong water temp, stress...it could also be normal due to eggs with females...
a pic would help
Did you de-frost and rinse the frozen food well before feeding, how much and how often are the freeze dried food fed, how much food in general fed...how much and how often are the water changes and when was the last one, additive used, live plants, water temp....how long have you had her and is she in view of any males? Any other symptom besides the swelling..also are her scale sticking up..if so you may have an emergency on your hands and fast treatment is needed...if not......
Right now I would remove the otto and house that species in the proper tank along with 3-4 other of its own species...hold all food for now and start making 50% daily water changes for the next 4 days and if she can see any males move her so that she can't see them...if no improvement I can give you the Epsom salt treatment direction
