An update guys.

My take is cycled. I dunno where I said it wasn't. Sorry for the confusion. It is filtered and I put in the beginning cycling liquid as instructed on the takes instructions. I am under the impression a cycled tank is one with a filter, correct? I don't have the water testing kit but I need to get it soon. It's on my to buy list. I am just very poor right now. I have too many pills. Perhaps my next payday I can invest in one. I've been getting everything I need slowly but surely. I haven't lost a betta yet so I think I am doing okay at least. :P

I get a lot of different information from everyone. Many have said I still need to do a lot of water changes WITH it being cycled. Some say I don't. The majority I get is doing small (perhaps 20%) every two weeks or once a month. I am thinking of doing the 20% once every two weeks. The bad thing is I am starting to get some algae growth which I've been treating with some chemicals and using an aquarium brush to get off. I know water changes help with that.
My mom says having a heater always makes algae grow more. Dunno how right she is.

I think I am doing something okay. My bettas have made a huge turnaround. They are more active than I have ever seen them (I kept them in unheated bowls/tanks before). They are always swimming about and coming to the class when I walk up to it. They have good appetites (I've learned one of them is more of a floor feeder and I was always worried that he never got to eat. He seems to like to pick his food out of the gravel).

I did get ghost shrimp and put six in it. For some reason they all died. I am making another thread about that.

Thank you all for the help. :)
