I just bought my new baby Camelot from the Petco where I work a week ago, and I expected him to be sick. The other bettas around him and his new brother Avalon were dying off for some reason (probably the cold, since their cups aren't heated.
Avalon is perfectly fine, however, Camelot refused to eat until just the other day, and he has lots of gray stripes and spots on his fins and scales - more show up everyday. On top of that, it looks like he has a couple red, rash-like spots on the top of his head, and a bulge on one side of his face near his gill.
He's just starting to be a little more active now - he's eaten the last few times I've fed him, and he swims around his little 1/2 gal tank now, instead kinda just drifting along the bottom. But the gray strips are starting to turn black and the red hasn't gone away. I don't think it's his natural color coming in - he was a very pretty silver white when I got him.
I bought tetracycline today because I think he has a bacterial infection - maybe septacemia? The problem is it comes in 500mg pouches of powder meant for 10 gal tanks...way too much for his little 1/2 gallon! Anyone know how many teaspoons 50mg is?
