Getting ready to breed, couple quick questions!

Still 20 gallon or larger is needed. If you want you can buy two 10 gallon tanks, spawn in one, and then when they're one month old split the spawn. You need to give them room to GROW. Feeding and water changes aren't enough to get them to adulthood....they need space. If it's a very small spawn you can use a big plastic tub (clear)....they work just as well as a tank but they're cheaper and won't break on you haha.

Filter...no. Heater yes. I don't use filters in fry tanks because I do 90% daily water changes because fry excrete a hormone that stunts their growth....that hormone needs to be removed from the water and filters don't do that...only very large, very frequent water changes can remove the hormone and produce the best growth. You could just go on craigslist...people are getting rid of huge tanks for cheap!

i wish i had knew that before i just bought another filter. filters have to help somewhat though in addition to water changes? im sure they will get most of the stuff i miss from only a few days not changing the water. i think ill be fine. but yeah just in case i got a backup filter anyways. can i use a big plastic storage bin as a growout?

so, ive got a new plan and i think it will work out well. i just bought a 20 gallon utility tub. you know those round circle tubs for my growout tank. im gonna place the heater i have right now in that tank. im gonna use a new air pump dual filter made just for fry and im gonna split the tubing to go into the baby brine shrimp hatchery. this way i can just leave them be and everything will be good. probably do like 25-30 percent water changes every week. the filter im getting is dual sponged so i will rinse one sponge off one day and come back a couple days later and rinse the other off. im gonna be keeping this out in the garage. i would do it in my room, but i dont have enough room with my computer desk being here. and the garage is the only place my parents will let me put it. then once the babies are full grown, i will move them to their cups and ship them out. then ill take the heater back from the tub, put it in my 10 gallon. take about 4-5 female betta and put them in there. get 20 mystery ivory snails and put them in. put substrate on the bottom, put the squidward house in, and im all set. oh and take the live plants from the tub along with some amazon sword plants i got and put them in.

As long as you can see through the tub it's fine. I use 66 quart for small spawns. If you want them to grow faster you'll need to do more water changes..preferably at least 50% daily...if you don't care how long it takes for them to grow then you have a good plan.

well im worried my water siphoner will suck up too many fry. i guess i could put them back, but i think the siphon will kill them. am i wrong?

Not in the growout. They need to be at least 1 month old before moving them and by that time they'll be big enough to avoid siphoning and just get ot of the way.
