Live Plants

I am finally confortable with my fish, snail and shrimps and ready to tackle live plants. I would like some opinions and sage advice about what to get.

I am guessing I need something easy and low light? Very little natural light coming into tanks (one 10 gal, one 5 gal). I don't know what is important as far as artificial lights go. I don't want to deal with CO2. Substrate is gravel, will consider changing.

What other info do you need? Okay....help me design.
