first post, general question

hey great forum.. me and my BF, having been keeping fish for about 4 years, he has 125 oscar tank, and red bellied piranha tank, we are planning a 30L communuty tank. but out of everything i think i love bettas the best.. any way my question is i have just a normal crowntail male and he tank is perfect, cover and he seems to like it. though once in a while he seems to flair up for no reason. is he justed stressed a little or is it a betta thing. my king bettas never do this. on a lighter note he sometimes goes to where he can see me and puffs up, so is he over terratorial or do i have a problem also the betta are side by side but have all side they can see each other covered. thank you

Some of my boys just flare up randomly as well, it's no big deal.

As for being side-by-side, as long as they aren't flaring at each other constantly, they should be fine.

Dunno... might just see their reflections and get all defensive. It's a betta thing. :P

I agree with Betta slave about the reflection thing. For me boy, once it starts to get dark out he can see his reflection and will flare at it so I have to turn his light off. I would suggest maybe observe his behavior and see if he starts flaring at certain times during the day. The different light levels may very well be causing the problem. :o

i have thought of that and its just random times, at moment i am chalking it up to just a betta thing, be will keep checking
