In my personal opinion a betta can do FINE in a tank that is 1g. I have one of mine in a 1g and he loves it in there. Also I have no heater for any of my tanks and as long as you keep him in warmest room in the house the temp will stay above 75.. My 3 are unheated and stay at a constant 78. I only have the heat at 20 with the door shut and the turtles heat lamp on (On the turtles not the betta's) So you may have to turn the heat higher... Mind you this room is in the basement and I live in canada and its the dead of winter. So go... get your betta :)

It wasnt the tank size, it was the heat issue. Because it worked for you, doesnt mean it will work for the OP. The OP's house temps are likely different. Please dont give people false info because it worked for you. Not trying to offend, I promise :D

I didnt tell him it was going to be the SAME. I told him that he should prolly bump the heat up in whichever room the fish is in. This is why I gave him the extact condition in which it works in my husbands office... assuming he doesnt have a turtle heat lamp to bump the heat up in his room he would have to turn the heat up. UNTIL he can afford a heater it would be fine was my point here.
