Hey and welcome and hes beautiful :)
but i just (for my own peace of mind) need to ask if you know what your getting yourself in for and have all the necessary equipment and housing, and that you know what your doing.
IF not i would point you into the way of the breeding information.
my colour suggestion would be a blue or green female DT (i know if you cross anything with a vt you will end up with mainly vts)
if you want more Doubletails, you'd need to get a doubletail female. if you don't care, or have a line picked out(like, based on color instead of tail type), then it doesn't matter. i think a matching female would work better, a Butterfly halfmoon or so, if you don't care about tail type(you may still get DTs in the second gen, but you'd need to keep breeding the offspring to get just DTs). he's a beautiful boy, though. :3
Good to hear! well mostly breeders prefer to breed the same tail types DT X DT , CTx CT etc cross breeding just creates more hybrid types lol
I will be breeding a vt (male) X HM (Female) for the colour because i can sell VT's to the lps, ill be double spawning, the yellow VT X HM and a metalic copper SD X HM spawn pair ( spawn pair meaning they are brother/sister of a sdhm spawn) but i know i can sell them
Do NOT breed a doubletail female to your doubletail mail. DBT x DBT is a lethal pairing, and you will get fry with crooked spines/deformities.
If you want doubletails, you'll have to breed twice- once to a non-doubletail female, and then breed the fry of that spawn to the male once again. Then you'll come out with doubletail fry.
Don't get a crowntail female either, your fry will come out with very messy fins/raying and it will take a few generations to clean those up. I'd go for a HM or SD.
You can also ask sellers if the female carries the DT gene to knock out one step. If you spawn your DT male w a female carrying the DT gene, then your spawn will produce both HM and DT fry.
I agree with Betta slave, DON'T breed 2 DBT's. The reason being that they have many problems, short, thin bodies and such, and breeding them creates mostly deformed fry. It's one of the basic fin-genetics /=
Maybe you should breed a HM, or if you want DBTPK's, breed him with a plakat. Anything other than DBT and veil (Not a pretty combo)
Well, I find double-veiltails to be very pretty when they have nice, well-formed fins... but yes, the first spawn will be all veiltails (which will be hard to re-home rather than HM fry) if you decide to choose to breed him to a vt female. I'm not saying you should breed him to a VT and I'm not saying you shouldn't, but it wouldn't be the best of choices.
DBTPK's are very pretty as well. But if you want to re-home the fry more easily, and you prefer the long flowy fins, definitely go with the HM.
I would look for a turquoise or steel female HM, a marble would also work. Martinismommy happens to have a beautiful pastel girl for sale on aquabid that I think would pair beautifully with this guy. You can ask Karen to see her parents... I think you'll be happy with the lineage :)
Sometimes with unrelated pairs you can do a DT x DT cross but I would not suggest new breeders do that because you do have a much higher chance of getting deformities. DT pairs should never be related and the safest way to breed DT is to breed DT x ST.
